The kick-off event of the GEMINI Laboratory will be held on October 6th at SHIBUYA QWS in Shibuya, Tokyo.

The GEMINI Laboratory by Toppan is a project to discuss and test ideas for virtual spaces, through collaborations with artists, architects, researchers and users, aiming to advance their practical application in society.

The kick-off event will feature a full introduction of the project and discussions by various experts on virtual spaces. Players at the forefront of diverse fields, including technology, art and academia, will take the stage to discuss the possibilities for a “mirror world” that is enabled by borderless interaction between the real and virtual worlds.

The event speakers include Kevin Kelly, who is also known as the founding editor of Wired magazine, Mitsuhiro Takemitsu, Keisuke Toyoda, Tomoya Mori, Yasushi Sakai, SUNAKI, exonemo, Kazuki Takakura, Masahiro Yamaguchi, Ou Sugiyama, Natsuyo Chinsho, Keiichiro Hirano, Kyoko Tominaga, Arina Tsukada, Mariko Nishimura and more.

Artists will present their prototypes at GEMINI Laboratory Exhibition. Exonemo, Yasushi Sakai, Sputniko! and others will participate

From October 14th to 25th, the GEMINI Laboratory Exhibition will be held at ANB Tokyo in Roppongi, Tokyo.

At the exhibition, several artists will present a group of works created based on the concept of the GEMINI Laboratory. Participating artists are exonemo, Yasushi Sakai, SUNAKI, Sputniko! , Ayumi Kanno, and misato. The exhibition is curated by Kensho Tambara, a founding member of Shin-Okubo’s art space UGO, and admission is free.

It will also feature prototype functional materials produced using Toppan’s IT research sections’ latest CAD and 3D printing technologies. Members of TOPPAN DIGITAL SANDBOX®, a hub for prototyping and experiments aimed at expanding digital transformation business, will demonstrate architectural models where virtual and real spaces come together with GEMINI Laboratory.
